About Dental Bridges

Dental bridges are one means of replacing one or two  missing teeth together that have been lost, and, thus, creating a gap.  A false tooth/teeth are placed in the space and attached to existing teeth on one or both sides of the gap.  For dental bridges, there are three main options: a traditional bridge, a cantilever bridge, and a Maryland bridge. For traditional bridges, the false tooth is attached to teeth on either side of the gap.   A cantilever bridge is attached to two or more teeth but only on one side of the gap. In a Maryland bridge or resin-bonded bridge, the false tooth is supported by wings or framework bonded to the surrounding natural teeth. At Houston Heights Dentistry, Dr. Neela Patel performs all three types of dental bridges to repair and restore your smile.

What to Expect

After the teeth to which the false tooth will be attached are prepared,  impressions and pictures will be taken and sent to a dental laboratory where the permanent bridge will be made. A temporary bridge is created and placed with temporary cement, and can be used until the permanent bridge is ready to be placed. Once received, it will be tried in and adjusted to fit for ideal comfort and appearance, and then permanently attached.

Treatment Aftercare

Because temporary cement is used, the temporary bridge may come off before the permanent bridge is ready.  If so, don't worry - just give us a call and we'll place it back on right away. With proper home care and regular visits to our office for professional cleanings and dental exams, dental bridges usually last 10–15 years or longer. A good home oral care routine includes proper brushing at least twice a day and flossing once a day.

Insurance Coverage

If you have dental insurance, some of the cost of your dental bridge may be covered depending on your carrier and specific coverage. Typically, bridges require a 50% patient co-pay. Our administrative team will coordinate with your insurance to minimize your personal cost. We also accept many payment options and offer financing for our dental procedures.
